MN DFL House Speaker Hortman on budget surplus: "we'll continue to focus on cutting costs"

(Fargo, ND) -- Minnesota DFL House Speaker Melissa Hortman is commenting after an economic forecast indicated the state currently has a better than expected budget surplus.

"Broader economic indicators remain strong and corporate profits are still soaring.  We know there are Minnesotans who are not doing as well and that's why we'll continue to focus on cutting costs for Minnesotans in childcare, in housing, and in healthcare," said Hortman.

The February economic forecast shows a $3.7 billion state budget surplus.

However, the forecast warns that state spending could exceed revenues in the future.
