North Dakota constitutional initiative calling for congressional age limits qualifies for ballot

(Fargo, ND) -- North Dakotans will get the opportunity to vote on congressional age limits. 

Secretary of State Michael Howe announced today that the petition drive aimed at getting the constitutional initiative on the ballot submitted enough valid signatures to qualify. 

The required number was 31,164. 

More than 42,000 signatures were turned in February 9th. 

More than 9,700 signatures were rejected. 

The measure is assigned as "Measure 1" and will appear on the June 11th, 2024, Primary Election ballot. 

Under the measure, "No person who would "attain 81 years of age by December 31st of the year immediately preceding the end of the term" would be eligible to appear on the ballot for congressional office.
