(St. Paul, MN) -- The state of Minnesota is surpassing the rest of the United States when it comes to producing clean, sustainable energy.

Clean Energy Economy Minnesota and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy say 54% of the electricity in Minnesota comes from carbon-free sources compared 41% in the rest of the U.S. They also say emissions from the state's power sector have dropped ten-percent in the last 12 months.

A law passed last year requires utility companies in Minnesota to get all of their electricity from renewable sources by 2040.
