(BISMARCK, ND) – North Dakota drivers on the state’s interstates will enjoy a higher speed limit later this summer.

The bill increases the speed limit on I-29 and I-94 to 80 miles per hour, up five miles per hour from the current speed.
Speeding tickets are also going up.
On roads with a speed limit of less than 65, the fine is $20 or $3 for each mile per hour over, whichever is greater; on roads with a speed limit greater than 65, the fine is $20 or $5 for each mile per hour over, whichever is greater; and going more than 16 miles per hour over the speed limit adds an additional $20 fine.
Speeding in a construction zone with workers present currently is an $80 ticket; the new fine is $150.
The new laws go into effect August 1.
