BENSON COUNTY, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Benson County Sheriff Ethan Rode will be stepping down.

County Commissioner Dick Horner confirmed with Valley News Live that Rode submitted his resignation to the County Auditor on July 24, and it will be effective at end of day on July 25.

Horner will serve in that position until they have an interim Sheriff named.

This change in leadership comes just a day after Chief Deputy Travis Carlson was charged with 13 different criminal counts, including three felonies. Horner said that the decision to resign was not related to Carlson’s charges, and the decision was due to payroll issues involving a former employee.
