Cause of death of fetus found at Jamestown construction site revealed

UPDATE: Jamestown Police said a male fetus found at a construction site in November 2025 was stillborn and was in a jar likely from the 1930s to the 1940s.

Police worked with the Stutsman County Coroner and the North Dakota State Forensic Medical Examiner’s Office in its investigation.

Authorities said the 34-week-old fetus would have been stillborn because of complications of the umbilical cord placement while in its mother’s uterus. They say it’s still unknown why the fetus was put in a jar with preservation fluid at the job site.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call Jamestown Police at 701-252-2414.
