Ellison threatens Trump with lawsuit over revocation of temporary protection status for Somalis

ST PAUL, MINN — Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is suggesting a lawsuit after President Trump says he will revoke the temporary protection status of Minnesota Somalis.

On Monday, Ellison said his office is looking into every option on the table to push back against the threat.

Last week, Trump claimed fraud cases were the reason to end the protection status for Somalis in Minnesota. On Truth Social, he said Minnesota, under Governor Tim Walz, ‘is a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity. I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota.’

U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar and a group of state lawmakers condemned the administration’s move to collectively punish the community for scandals such as Feeding Our Future.  They noted that defendants in those cases represent a tiny fraction of the tens of thousands of Somali Americans living in the state.
