WASHINGTON, DC – Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach is quite busy these days in her service in the U.S. House. Alongside her work on Ways and Means, she’s been working on negotiations for President Donald Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’
Fischbach also was able to be present at the Vatican for the installation mass for Pope Leo XIV.
Big Beautiful Bill negotiations
Fischbach says President Donald Trump sat in on the negotiation session for his ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’
“He again reiterated we’re going to take what’s in the bill on Medicaid, because there’s no cuts to Medicaid,” Fischbach told The Flag’s Scott Hennen. “And he reiterated several times, ‘Waste, fraud and abuse is what we’re after.’ And that’s what we get at with this language.”
She said Minnesotans themselves know what waste, fraud and abuse look like.
“We’ve had a lot of it lately in state government,” Fischbach said.
Even though some are holding out on the bill, she said, but President Trump is making those members aware he supports the bill.
Fischbach’s work on Ways and Means
The House Ways and Means Committee, Congress’ oldest committee, is the chief tax-writing committee in the U.S. House.
Fischbach is a member of the committee and says a lot of great work has been done.
“We are delivering tax relief to families and small businesses,” she said. “And we are going to get the economy going even better than it is now.”
Fischbach says the small business work impacts her district.
“That’s what we have in the 7th District, we have small businesses,” she said. “We need to make sure they can survive, and they’re not overtaxed.”
She also highlighted a $2,500 child tax credit.
“I’m excited about this, providing real tax relief for the middle income,” Fischbach said.
Pope Leo XIV installation mass
Fischbach attended the installation mass for the newest leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV.
She was a member of the Congressional delegation that was sent to the Vatican for the event, joining leaders and others from across the world.

“It was incredible to be there,” Fischbach said.
When asked if she invited the Pope to address a joint session of Congress, Fischbach laughed and said, “I will, absolutely, it would be exciting to have him here.”
