(BISMARCK, ND) – North Dakota’s Legislature adjourned sine die in the early morning hours of Saturday.
Senator David Hogue, in addressing the state’s Senators at the conclusion of the session, praised his colleagues for their work.
“We managed to address all of our needs and some of our wants,” he said. “We did it without raising any taxes, we did it without borrowing any money and we provided record relief.”
The relief comes in the form of more than $400 million in property tax relief and caps local property tax increases at three percent. The cap will limit property tax increases across residential, commercial and agricultural property and encourage cities, counties, schools, and park districts to budget prudently and plan ahead. If the entire three percent isn’t used, the remainder of it can be carried over for up to five years.
