Man walks away from Bismarck correctional facility

BISMARCK – A man serving a sentence for possession of certain materials prohibited out of Cass County has been reported as a walkaway from a correctional facility.

The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said Saturday that 38-year-old Roman Poitra walked away from the Missouri River Correctional Center. It’s an unfenced, minimum-security facility.

Poitra is a Native American man who is nearly six feet tall and 260 pounds. He has brown eyes and shoulder-length dark hair. He also wears glasses.

Poitra is set to be released in January 2028.

Officials say he has connections to the Devils Lake area and may be headed there.
