Minneapolis lawyer enters gubernatorial race

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A Minneapolis attorney is running for governor in Minnesota.

Chris Madel announced his candidacy at a press conference Monday in Minneapolis at the law office he owns in downtown Minneapolis.

“My four priorities and goals are pretty simple,” he said. “Attack fraud, safer streets and support cops, stronger schools and more affordable, more efficient government.”

Madel made headlines last year when he represented Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Ryan Londregan, who faced charges of murder, manslaughter and first-degree assault. In June 2024, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty dropped the charges against Londregan.

He joins a crowded group of Republicans looking to run against the incumbent Democratic governor, Tim Walz. The Republicans running include House Speaker Lisa Demuth, former State Senator and gubernatorial candidate Scott Jensen, former gubernatorial candidate Kendall Qualls and Rep. Kristin Robbins.
