Minnesota Education Commissioner: Comprehensive Assessment results ‘reflect stable proficiency’ in math, English

ST PAUL, MN — The state Department of Education is taking a “glass half full” approach with this year’s Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments results.

In its North Star Accountability report released this morning, the department said 45-point-two-percent of Minnesota students who took the MCAs met or exceeded proficiency standards in math, while 49-point-six-percent met or exceeded the proficiency standards in English. Although the numbers reflect virtually no change over the last two years, department officials are touting the consistency.

Education Commissioner Willie Jett said “These scores reflect stable proficiency and suggest a solid foundation for long-term gains.”
