Minnesota Republican Party Chairman: “Woodbury deserves better. The people of Minnesota deserve better”

ST PAUL, MN – The chairman of the Minnesota Republican Party says now-convicted Senator Nicole Mitchell should resign.

“Woodbury deserves better. The people of Minnesota deserve better,” chairman Alex Plechash said. “If Senator Mitchell does not resign immediately, the DFL Senate must vote to expel her. This is a dark stain on the Minnesota Senate, and a total betrayal of the public trust. It’s time to end this nightmare and restore some basic integrity to government. No one is above the law.”

A jury found her guilty of two charges – first-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.

More than a dozen witnesses testified at trial, including Mitchell herself.

Mitchell testified that she regretted breaking into her stepmother’s home in Detroit Lakes in April 2024, but claims she was there out of concern for her stepmother who suffers from Alzheimer’s.

On the first charge, Mitchell faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.  The latter conviction could result in an up to 3 year prison term at sentencing.
