BISMARCK – A ballot measure is being drafted that would require the state to pay for school meals.
Amy Jacobson, Executive Director of Prairie Action, tells Flag Family News that the organizers of the measure are currently gathering the required materials from the sponsoring committee. They’ll be submitting the information to the Secretary of State formally in the near future.
“Our proposed measure would provide one breakfast and one lunch every school day to all enrolled students, at no cost to students, their parents, or their guardians,” she said in a statement to Flag Family News.
The ballot measure, if approved, would go to a vote of North Dakota residents.
The Minnesota Legislature passed a bill making meals free for public, private and charter schools in the state in 2023.
