North Dakota Ethics Commission chairman dies

BISMARCK, ND – The chairman of the North Dakota Ethics Commission has died.

The Commission announced the death of Dave Anderson on Wednesday afternoon. He was 69.

Anderson was appointed in 2019 to serve as an inaugural member of the newly formed Ethics Commission.  His dedication, curiosity, and work ethic established the Commission’s early foundation. In September 2024, he was selected by his colleagues to serve as Chair of the Commission, championing the Commission’s work to increase transparency in state government. Anderson was fiercely principled, a servant leader, and totally dedicated to the people of North Dakota, the commission said in a statement.

He is a retired member of the North Dakota Army National Guard with 34 years of service. He held numerous roles including Commander of the 142nd Engineer Combat Battalion during a deployment to Iraq and Commander of the Army Component, North Dakota National Guard.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 4 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a prayer service and sharing of memories starting at 7 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Service in Bismarck. The funeral will be Thursday, June 5 at 11 a.m. at the main chapel of Our Lady of Annunciation Chapel at the University of Mary in Bismarck. He’ll be buried later that afternoon, at 3 p.m., at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
