North Dakota Insurance Commissioner warns of scammers after hailstorm damage

BISMARCK, ND — The State Insurance Commissioner is warning North Dakotans affected by this year’s hailstorms to watch out for scammers.

Commissioner Jon Godfread says it’s common for scammers to target areas recently hit by severe weather and natural disasters. The commissioner says to be on the lookout for contractors claiming to be FEMA-approved, requiring upfront payment to schedule a job, and discouraging you from talking with your insurance company.

Godfread says you should call your insurance company for a list of reputable contractors.
