North Dakota is the top hardest-working state, a WalletHub study says

REGION – WalletHub says the tri-states of North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota are among the top 20 hardest-working states in the United States.

The study compared all 50 states across 10 indicators, including average workweek hours, share of workers with multiple jobs and annual volunteer hours per resident.

North Dakota ranked the top hardest-working state, with South Dakota ranked third. Minnesota sits just inside the top 20 at 19th.

“It’s tough to tell that specifically,” NBC National News correspondent Rory O’Neill told Flag Family News Reporter Austin Erickson when asked if Minnesota’s ranking is affected by western Minnesota residents who work in North Dakota. “19th is still pretty good on the list.”

North Dakota has the third-highest employment rate in the country, at nearly 98 percent and workers ages 16 to 64 work an average of nearly 40 hours per week, the fourth-most in the country.

South Dakota ranks 11th in workers with multiple jobs and fifth lowest in share of ‘idle youth,’ defined as people ages 18 to 24 who are not in school, are not working and have no school experience beyond a high school diploma. The state has the highest employment rate in the country.
