DEVILS LAKE, ND – The lead law enforcement official in Ramsey County is speaking out after his county was listed as a ‘sanctuary jurisdiction defying federal immigration law.’
“Ramsey County is not a Sanctuary Jurisdiction and has no intention of becoming one,” Sheriff Bryan Lang said in a social media post Sunday. “Ramsey County will continue to follow local, state and federal law, and enforce both criminal and immigration laws to the fullest extent.”
Last week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a comprehensive list of sanctuary jurisdictions including cities, counties, and states that are deliberately obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration laws and endangering American citizens. DHS says sanctuary cities protect dangerous criminal illegal aliens from facing consequences and put law enforcement in grave danger.
“These sanctuary city politicians are endangering Americans and our law enforcement in order to protect violent criminal illegal aliens,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. “We are exposing these sanctuary politicians who harbor criminal illegal aliens and defy federal law. President Trump and I will always put the safety of the American people first. Sanctuary politicians are on notice: comply with federal law.”
Lang said Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office employees ‘has always and will continue to share information with our federal partners pertaining to illegal aliens and other criminal matters.’
“The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department has worked closely with Homeland Security, I.C.E. and Border Patrol,” he said. “We have assisted our Federal Partners where illegal aliens have been identified and arrested in the past. The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department has always had a good working relationship with our federal partners and plan on continuing the working relationship into the future.”
