ROOSEVELT, Minn. – Roosevelt, Minnesota parents face charges after a child fatally shoots their sibling.
Theodore and Danielle Stewart face gross-misdemeanor charges of negligent storage of firearms in connection with the death of their eight-year-old son in Roseau County.
Court documents say one of their young sons fatally shot his brother with a rifle that was left unattended.
Law enforcement found 14 rifles and pistols in the parents’ bedroom, “many of which were loaded.”
An emergency petition filed in court a few days after the shooting led to the Stewarts’ children being placed in protective custody that was later rescinded.
