Senate Democrats block NDAA

WASHINGTON – Democrats in the United States Senate have blocked the National Defense Appropriations Act.

The bill would have supported service members and their families, funded military readiness efforts, strengthened the defense industrial base, and more.

North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer, chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee’s Airland Subcommittee, said he’s not surprised with the block.

“This has become par for the course for Democrats. They are literally playing not just politics, but hardcore partisan politics with our national security,” he said. “And of course, that means they’re playing politics with the wellbeing of our troops and their families that sacrifice so much for our freedom and frankly, freedom around the world.”

Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, says the legislation would fund a military pay raise and support servicemembers’ families, while providing support for vital defense missions, including in North Dakota.

“It makes no sense to block national security funding,” he said. “We’ll continue working to overcome Senate Democrats’ obstruction, so we can get government back open and get back to regular order.”
