DETROIT LAKES, MN – The sentencing date for Minnesota State Senator Nicole Mitchell has been set.
The 50-year-old Mitchell was found guilty by a jury of one count of first-degree burglary and a second count of possession of burglary tools. The trial wrapped up last Friday in Becker County District Court.
Mitchell broke into her stepmother’s Detroit Lakes home in April 2024 but claimed that she was there out of concern for her step-mother, who has Alzheimer’s Disease.
Officials with the Minnesota Judicial Branch confirmed to Flag Family News Thursday morning that a sentencing hearing has been set for Mitchell on September 10 at 10 a.m. in the Becker County Courthouse in Detroit Lakes.
She faces a maximum of 20 years in prison on the first charge and up to three years for the second charge.
