South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson announces campaign for governor

SOUTH DAKOTA – Republican South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson wants to continue his political career back home.

He announced he’s running for governor saying his campaign will focus on cutting property taxes, boosting energy production, cracking down on drugs, and investing in education. Johnson says he waited to run until now to avoid voter fatigue and finish work in Congress first.

Governor Larry Rhoden hasn’t announced if he plans to campaign for the seat he inherited after former Governor Kristi Noem became Homeland Security Secretary.

Other Republicans running for governor include South Dakota Speaker of the House Jon Hansen and retail and real estate executive Toby Doeden. The only Democrat in the race is Dakota State University student Robert Arnold.
