WAHPETON, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Voters in Wahpeton approved two measures to fund a new $30 million community wellness and recreation center, Tuesday.
A total of 1,260 people voted, according to the Wahpeton Daily News.
Question 1 passed, 856-387. It asked voters, “Shall the City Council of the City of Wahpeton adopt an ordinance for the purposes of enacting a cap on the amount of sales and use tax for any single transaction for one or more items to $75.00?”
Question 2 also passed, 772-488. It askied voters, “Shall the City Council of the City of Wahpeton adopt an ordinance increasing the city’s sales, use and gross receipt tax by one percent (1%) for the primary purpose of assisting in the funding of construction, maintenance and operation of a community recreation and wellness facility.”
The proposal includes an indoor play park, elevated walking track, aquatics center and fitness areas, gymnasiums, an indoor turf, a community kitchen, public gathering space and senior center. It would be located at 14th Avenue and 11th Street, adjacent to Blikre Activities Center.
