Voters reject new jail, sheriff’s office proposal in Walsh County special election

(GRAFTON, ND) – Voters in Walsh County have rejected a proposal that would fund the construction and operation of a new county jail and sheriff’s office in Walsh County.

In a special election Tuesday, electors were asked to approve implementation of a three-quarter percent sales tax and an increase in mills from 60 to 80 for the construction and operation of the jail, which would be built near the current existing jail.

While voters approved the three-quarter percent sales tax, they rejected the idea of increasing the mills by 20. Both issues would have needed to pass for the issue to move forward.

Flag Family News has reached out to Walsh County Sheriff Ron Jurgens and other county officials for comment.
