GRAFTON – A Walsh County man is facing charges after more than 20 images of child pornography were discovered.
According to court documents, 31-year-old Ryan Nilson, of Hoople, was arrested last week after law enforcement found images on his cell phone. Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for Nilson and his Hoople home.
After Nilson was detained outside of a Hoople business and transported to his residence, officers explained that he was detained due to a search warrant for both his person and residence. Court documents state Nilson requested an attorney prior to being placed in a squad car.
While at the residence, he was able to read the search warrant and was asked by authorities if he had any questions, to which he asked if the search warrant was ‘because he looks at pornography of people who may look young,’ the statement of probable cause read.
Officers found 24 images on the phone.
Nilson is charged with one Class B Felony of possession of certain materials prohibited, which is punishable of up to 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
He had a bond hearing last week but remains jailed at the Walsh County Jail in Grafton. He’s due back in court on September 29 for an initial appearance in front of Judge Kari Agotness.
