Walz signs bill protecting scuba divers working in Minnesota lakes

(ST. PAUL, MINN) – Commercial scuba divers working in Minnesota lakes must now adhere to safety requirements after a bill was signed into law by Governor Tim Walz.

The legislation, titled the Brady Aune and Joseph Anderson Safety Act, covers aquatic plant management companies whose employees use scuba gear.

The bill was created after deaths of Aune and Anderson, who drowned while working in lakes using scuba gear without proper training.

The law includes additional occupational safety and health requirements, which include ensuring all divers are scuba certified, using certain equipment on site, and having a standby diver on scene.
