Walz signs Minnesota’s first tribal-state cannabis compact

ST. PAUL, MINN – A compact signed Tuesday lays out how the state of Minnesota and the White Earth Nation will promote their relationship in regulating cannabis while promoting public safety.

The state’s first ever tribal-state cannabis compact was ordered by the state Legislature to allow Governor Tim Walz to negotiate the compacts with tribal nations. The purpose is to enhance public health and safety, ensure a lawful and well-regulated cannabis market, encourage economic development, and provide financial benefits to both the state and Tribal Nations.
