Wind, hail reported as severe thunderstorms move east into the Red River Valley

REGION – Wind and hail reports are beginning to be reported into the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

A Ham Radio operator reported to the weather service one-inch diameter hail falling in an area just north-northwest of Jamestown before 3 p.m. today. An automated weather station at the Jamestown Airport clocked a 64 mile per hour wind gust, while just south of Jamestown three-quarter inch diameter hail fell. Just east-southeast of Ypsilanti reported a 62 mile per hour wind gust as the storm moved east shortly after 3 p.m. Near Valley City, a 61 mile per hour wind gust was reported at just after 3:30 p.m.

Three-quarters of an inch of rain fell in Clifford, located in southern Traill County.
