Fargo Public Works Services Manager Corey Hoium’s interview with Flag Family News Reporter Chris Larson
FARGO, N.D. – Fargo city crews continue their work clearing the City of Fargo’s streets and avenues of snow.
“Each team is running a 12-hour shift and they’ve been going at it since it started,” Public Works Services Manager Corey Houim told Flag Family News on Wednesday.
The work included 16 plows and eight units that were working to clear snow from the roadways and putting product on the roads in an attempt to allow vehicles to stop safely at stop lights and stop signs throughout town. Crews were aided by the fact that predicted strong winds did not evolve as forecast.
Now, crews will begin focusing snow removal from avenues in downtown Fargo beginning late this weekend. Hoium announced Thursday that the removal will begin on east-west avenues on Sunday evening.
That work will require vehicles to be removed from those avenues beginning in the early hours of Monday morning. The city says any vehicles left on the avenues at 2 a.m. will be impounded.
The assistance from the community is welcome by city crews, Hoium said.
“Anytime we get significant snow like this, if the folks can move their vehicles off of the roadway and then let the plows come through and plow the whole width of the roadway, that would be greatly appreciated,” he said. “Because if we don’t, we’re going to end up going around the vehicle. And then of course, we’re going to leave that snow windrow around them, which they’re going to have to dig out and move their car.”
That removal may lead to a call for service to the city, which then has to return to move the snow.
“It’s a lot more efficient for us internally if we could go down the street and there’s no vehicles parked there,” Hoium said. “We know that’s not really a reality, but anybody that can follow the parking restrictions would be greatly appreciated.”
Parking in select locations is free after 5 p.m. and on weekends. Visit FargoParking.com/Locations for information about available parking.
