The NDSU Bison secured a ninth national championship in the past 11 years over this past weekend. They dominated the Montana State Bobcats 38-10 to bring another championship back to Fargo. Early in the game Bobcats quarterback Tommy Mellott left the game after rolling his right ankle trying to make a cut on the field. After that injury NDSU seized momentum and never lost it.
The Bison took an FCS championship game record 28 point lead into the half at 28-0 thanks to four rushing touchdowns. Three of which were complimentary of the games Most Outstanding Player award winner Hunter Luepke. The fourth was via a Kobe Johnson 76 yard breakout touchdown run. Luepke finished the game with 82 yards rushing on 14 carries.
In the second half both squads each scored 10 points with NDSU’s touchdown through the air as Cam Miller connected with Josh Babicz for a 35 yard touchdown pass. Starting quarterback Cam Miller completed nine of his 13 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown including 41 yards on the ground. Backup quarterback Quincy Patterson also had a solid game with 98 rushing yards on 11 carries.
