UND Has Inked Head Football Coach Schweigert Through The End of The 2025 Season

On Wednesday University of North Dakota Athletic Director Bill Chaves announced the extension of head football coach Bubba Schweigert. The extension is for an additional two seasons keeping Schweigert on the Fighting Hawks sideline through the end of the 2025 season.

"Our football program is in great hands under Bubba's leadership. His commitment to the student-athlete experience is tremendous while also being an outstanding ambassador for UND and the state of North Dakota," said Chaves.

In UND’s first season as a Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) member he led the Fighting Hawks to a conference championship. Schweigert was also successful with UND before the transition to the MVFC from the Big Sky, being named the 2016 Big Sky Coach of the Year. Under Schweigert UND made back-to-back FCS playoff appearances in 2019 and 2020. In eight seasons as the program's head coach he currently has a 47-40 record and a 69-61 record overall.

In total he’s been on the sideline for five winning seasons and three postseason appearances. He was also named the Region 5 Coach of the Year in 2016 on top of the Big Sky Coach of the Year.

"It continues to be a humbling experience to be a part of a special program with a rich tradition and I am grateful for the opportunity to resume this role," said Schweigert.

During the shortened 2020 season he led UND to its first ever FCS quarterfinals appearance. UND also became the first team to win the MVFC in their first season as a member of the conference.
