On Tuesday University of North Dakota men’s basketball head coach Paul Sather announced the addition of Elijah Brooks to the 2022-23 Fighting Hawks roster.

The Topeka, Kan., native did it all while attending Topeka West High School including being named Mr. Basketball in Kansas this past season. Brooks finished his high school career as Topeka West’s all-time leading scorer with 1,450 points. During his senior season, Brooks averaged 25.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.2 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. During the 2021-22 season he set the single season school records in total points (581) and points per game (25.3).

Brooks helped lead the Chargers to two consecutive Centennial League titles. Last season he was named both the Shawnee County and Centennial League Player of the Year.

Head coach Paul Sather is excited to have Brooks at UND for his character on and off the court saying, "Elijah is a big guard that plays basketball with great pace, physicality and skill. He is fast in the open court, plays downhill in the half court, and attacks the rim with great efficiency." Sather continued, "his feel for making the right play makes him a versatile guard and someone that can guard multiple positions on defense. Elijah's a really talented basketball player, but more importantly, he's a high character man that does a great job in the classroom and the community."
