Twins sweep attempt falls short against Astros

The Minnesota Twins dropped their series finale against the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon 5-1.

Twins starter Tyler Mahle gave up four runs in six innings of work and was tagged with the loss. He also struck out six batters.

Houston began the scoring with a Chas McCormick two run homer in the top of the third inning, giving the Astros a 2-0 lead. Donovan Solano would hit an RBI single for Minnesota in the bottom of the fourth inning, cutting the deficit to 2-1. McCormick would strike again in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single, extending the Astros lead back to two runs, this time at 3-1. Jeremy Piña added a two RBI double in the top of the eighth inning, 5-1 Houston.

The Twins will begin a three game series hosting the Chicago White Sox on Monday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. with Kenta Maeda on the mound for Minnesota.
