Salt Lake City pursuing MLB Franchise

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Salt Lake City is looking to add a Major League Baseball franchise.

A group named Big League Utah is joining Nashville and Portland as major cities in pursuit of joining MLB. The group, which is led by former Utah Jazz owner Gail Miller, cites the area’s population growth, strong economy and baseball history as reasons for an expansion team to come to town.

MLB does not plan to add any expansion teams before figuring out the future plans of the Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays, who both could move to a different city. Two-time NL MVP Dale Murphy said that Salt Lake City would be “a great market” and that there is “a healthy love of baseball” in the area.
