The Minnesota Twins took down the New York Yankees 6-1 at Target Field on Monday night.
Sonny Gray was outstanding on the mound for Minnesota tossing seven shutout innings. He also racked up eight strikeouts and picked up his third win of the season.
Jorge Polanco began the scoring for the Twins, hitting a two RBI single in the bottom of the third inning, giving Minnesota a 2-0 lead. Byron Buxton would then hit an RBI groundout fielder’s choice, extending the lead to 3-0.
In the fourth inning Joey Gallo struck. He hit a monstrous 432 foot home run, making the game 4-0.

Polanco drove in another run in the sixth inning on a double. Minnesota led 5-0.
Carlos Correa wanted to get in on the action, hitting an RBI triple in the eighth inning. Correa’s RBI made it 6-0 in favor of the Twins. Oswaldo Cabrera would spoil the shutout in the ninth inning. He hit into an RBI fielder’s choice, cutting the Twins’ lead to 6-1.

Game two of their series will be tonight with first pitch set for 6:40 p.m. Joe Ryan is slated to get the nod for Minnesota.
