NFL Draft first round recap

(Kansas City, MO) -- The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft saw 31 new playmakers enter into the league.

The Carolina Panthers kicked things off by selecting  Alabama quarterback Bryce Young with the first overall pick. The Texans then went back-to-back, selecting Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud second overall and Alabama outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr. third. The Colts took Florida QB Anthony Richardson fourth while Seattle chose Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon to round out the top five.

While no wide outs went in the top 19 picks, receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Quentin Johnston, Zay Flowers and Jordan Addison were taken with four consecutive picks beginning at number-20. The Chiefs capped off the night by taking hometown edge rusher Felix Anudike-Uzomah from Kansas State.

With the 23rd pick the Minnesota Vikings selected wide receiver Jordan Addison out of Southern California University.

The draft continues Friday with rounds two and three. The final four rounds will be on Saturday.
