Edwards and Timberwolves agree on five-year extension

The Minnesota Timberwolves and star Anthony Edwards have agreed on a five-year rookie maximum contract extension. The deal is five years and could be worth up to $260 million dollars.

The No. 1 overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft is developing into one of the top players in the NBA after earning his first All-Star nod this past season. He also averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

Edwards, who just finished his third season in the NBA is one of the most accomplished players before turning 22 in recent history. He is the only player in the league with 1,500 points and 100 steals in each of the past two seasons. Additionally, he has scored the fourth most points in NBA history before turning 22 years old with 4,871 points. He only trails LeBron James (7,067), Kevin Durant (5,967), and Carmelo Anthony (5,405).

After agreeing to terms on his new deal, Edwards is now the fourth player from the 2020 NBA Draft class to get a rookie max extension, joining Inadiana’s Tyrese Haliburton, Charlotte’s LaMelo Ball, and Memphis’ Desmond Bane.

The Timberwolves are now the third NBA team to have three max contracts on its roster. The Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns are the other two teams.
