United shut down New York City

(Flushing, NY) — The Minnesota United returned to MLS play with a 2-nil win over New York City FC at Citi Field.

Jan Gregus scored the first goal of the match in the 53rd minute, and Mender Garcia put it away with a goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time.  The Loons are in ninth-place in the Western Conference with eight wins, seven draws, and eight losses for 31 points.

Minnesota hosts Seattle on Sunday.
