Vikings add three defensive players + QB Darnold

(Eagan, MN) -- The Vikings are bolstering their defense.

The Purple added edge rushers Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel along with linebacker Blake Cashman in free agency yesterday. Greenard is coming off a 12 1/2 sack season in Houston, and his deal is worth $76 million over four years, while Van Ginkel had six sacks and an interception with Miami in 2023 and inked a two-year, $20 million contract. Cashman is a former Minnesota Gophers linebacker, and he signed a three-year deal worth $25.5 million.

The Vikings also re-signed back-up offensive linemen David Quessenberry and Blake Brandel yesterday.

Additionally, Minnesota came to terms with quarterback Sam Darnold on a one-year deal worth $10 million according to ESPN. Darnold was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 Draft by the New York Jets. He was traded to the Carolina Panthers in 2021, before spending this past season as a backup with the San Francisco 49ers. In 66 career games, Darnold has tossed 63 touchdown passes and tallied 12,064 yards passing (182.8 yards per game).
