Buxton to participate in 2025 Home Run Derby

Byron Buxton is making the most of the 2025 All-Star Game being in his home state of Georgia.

The now two-time All-Star has accepted an invite to participate in the Home Run Derby. He was quoted as saying this is a “once in a lifetime thing” after announcing that he would partake in the derby.

Buxton currently has 20 home runs, the second most in a single season in his 11 year MLB career. He will become the eighth Twins player to participate in the Home Run Derby all-time, joining Tom Brunansky (1985), Gary Gaetti (1989), Torii Hunter (2002), Justin Morneau (2007, 2008), Joe Mauer (2009), Brian Dozier (2014), and Miguel Sano (2017). To this point, Morneau is the only Twins player to win the derby; he did so in 2008.

Buxton is the fourth player to confirm hitting in the derby joining Atlanta’s Ronald Acuna Jr., Seattle’s Cal Raleigh, and Washington’s James Woods. (Two-time champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and Kyle Schwarber (Philly) both declined HRD invitations)

The 2025 Home Run Derby will take place at Truist Park in Atlanta, home of the Braves. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 14 with full coverage available on ESPN.
