Grant Nelson signs with Brooklyn Nets

Devils Lake, ND native, Grant Nelson has signed a 10-day contract with the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. The former North Dakota State and Alabama standout is now the first former Bison to hold a spot on an active NBA roster in-season.

Nelson played at NDSU from 2020-23. In his final season with the Bison in 2022-23, he averaged 19.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game. He then spent two seasons at Alabama from 2023-25, averaging 11.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game.

He was an undrafted free agent before agreeing to terms on an Exhibit-10 contract with the Nets in June. Nelson is vying to become the first former Bison to play in an NBA regular season game.

The Nets are currently 15-43 on the season, sitting in 14th out of 15  Eastern Conference teams.
