On Friday, September 11, 2026 Moorhead High School will be honoring Larry Knutson’s legendary broadcasting career during a ceremony at Jim Gotta Stadium. The Spuds are re-naming the press box in dedication to Knutson, who spent 47 seasons broadcasting Moorhead athletics from 1979 until 2026.
There will be a ceremony for Knutson during halftime of Moorhead’s home opener football game against Woodbury on Friday evening.
Knutson broadcasted some of the top moments in Spuds Athletics history from countless state tournament appearances across football, boys/girls basketball, and boys/girls hockey. His broadcasting career concluded by broadcasting back-to-back Moorhead boys hockey state championships.
Additionally, Knutson will join Jim Childs on the Moorhead Spuds Football pregame show on Friday night to discuss the evening and the emotions surrounding the ceremony.
The pregame show is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 6 p.m. on WDAY Radio (AM 970 / FM 93.1).
