A trio of University of North Dakota men’s hockey players have received in season National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) honors.
Junior Defenseman Jake Livanavage and Freshman goaltender Jan Spunar each earned NCHC monthly honors.
Livanavage has been named the NCHC’s Defenseman of the Month for December. This is the first time in his collegiate career he has been named the leagues Defenseman of the Month. Along with helping UND to a perfect 4-0 record in the month, he also recorded five points with two goals and three assists. Livanavage ended the month with a plus-four rating.
Spunar has earned the NCHC’s Rookie of the Month honor for December. During the month he started in three games, recording a perfect 3-0 record. Additionally, he was tied for first in save percentage at .934 while also being second in goals against average at 2.01. This is his first monthly honor in his collegiate career.
Freshman forward Jack Kernan has earned the NCHC Rookie of the Week honor for the week of December 29 thru January 4.
Kernan recorded his first career collegiate multi-point game, recording multiple points in both wins over Mercyhurst last weekend. He finished the weekend with three goals and one assist. Kernan is now the third UND player to earn the Rookie of the Week honor so far this season, joining Ollie Josephson and Jan Spunar. In 17 games this season Kernan has nine points on five goals and four assists.
North Dakota will now head to Colorado Springs for a weekend series against Colorado College beginning on Friday evening at 8 p.m. The Saturday night game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
