Twins announce Lopez to have surgery; Will miss all of 2026 season

On Friday afternoon, the Minnesota Twins announced that 29-year-old right-handed pitcher, Pablo Lopez, will miss the entire 2026 season.

The starter is slated to have surgery on his right ulner collateral ligament (UCL). The surgery is better know as Tommy John Surgery. The recovery time is typically around 12 month, but can take longer depending on rehab and the overall body healing from the surgery.

The Twins said that Lopez is scheduled to have the surgery on Wednesday, February 25 in Dallas, Texas.

Minnesota will begin Spring Training play on Saturday, February 21 in Fort Myers, Fla. against the Boston Red Sox with the first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m. and gas coverage available on MLB Network.
