Twins defeat Cubs; Joe Ryan named to AL All-Star Team

The Minnesota Twins defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-2 on Wednesday night.

In the first inning, Byron Buxton was hit in the left hand by a pitch. He would stay in the game, steal second base, and score later in the inning. After scoring the run, he was removed from the game due to precautionary reasons. His x-rays came back negative and has been listed as day-to-day with a left hand contusion.

David Festa gave up two runs over 5 ⅓ innings earning the win. Danny Coulombe recorded two outs while Brock Stewart, Louie Varland, and Jhoan Duran each tossed a shutout inning in relief.

Matt Wallner hit a solo home run with Carlos Correa and Ryan Jeffers each also picking up an RBI.

The Twins and Cubs will wrap up their series on Thursday afternoon with first pitch slated for 12:10 p.m. and game coverage available on MLB Network. Chris Paddack will be on the mound for Minnesota.

Additionally, Joe Ryan will be joining Byron Buxton for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta next week.

The Twins ace was added to the American League roster on Wednesday night as a replacement for Astros starter Hunter Brown. This is the first All-Star Game appearance for the 29-year-old, who is 8-4 with a 2.76 ERA this season.
