Twins take down A’s; Lopez to miss extended time

The Minnesota Twins took down the A’s 6-1 on Wednesday night.

Zebby Matthews gave up one run with four strikeouts over five innings en route to earning his first win of the 2025 campaign. Louie Varland, Griffin Jax, Brock Stewart, and Jhoan Duran each tossed a shutout inning out of the bullpen. Minnesota pitchers struck out 14 A’s in the victory.

Harrison Bader led the offense with a two-run homer with Ryan Jeffers hitting a solo home run and drove in a pair of runs. Willi Castro also picked up an RBI in the game.

The Twins and A’s will conclude their series on Thursday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 2:35 p.m. Bailey Ober is scheduled to get the start for Minnesota.

Minnesota currently sits in second place in the AL Central at 34-27, trailing the Detroit Tigers by six games for the division lead.

Pablo Lopez will miss extended time for the Twins after leaving his start in Sacramento early on Tuesday night.

An MRI revealed that Pablo Lopez suffered a Grade Two strain of his teres major after exiting Tuesday’s game against the Athletics. Lopez will be out between eight and 12 weeks as he recovers from the setback.

The 29-year-old is 5-3 with a 2.82 ERA in 11 starts this season.
