The Minnesota Twins were walked-off by the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 in their series rubber match on Wednesday.
The Twins led 3-2 in the ninth inning, when Mookie Betts had a controversial two strike check swing with two outs. Betts would end up walking, then Minnesota intentionally walked Shohei Ohtani and Esteury Ruiz would walk to load the bases. Then with two strikes Freddie Freeman would hit the walk-off two RBI single.
Chris Paddack struck out eight batters over six innings while only giving up one run in a no-decision. Danny Coulombe recorded only one out and gave up a run with Louie Varland getting two outs. Brock Stewart threw a shutout inning. Griffin Jax would record two outs but be tagged with the loss after giving up the walk-off hit.
Royce Lewis hit a solo home run and Harrison Bader added an RBI offensively for the Twins.
Minnesota now sits at 49-53 on the season and are in fourth place in the AL Central with one week remaining until the trade deadline.
The Twins are off on Thursday before welcoming the Washington Nationals to Target Field for a weekend series beginning on Friday night. Minnesota’s starter is scheduled to be Zebby Matthews while Washington is slated to send Mitchell Parker to the mound.
