Venezuela defeats USA in WBC championship

Venezuela defeated the USA 3-2 in the World Baseball Classic championship game on Tuesday night in Miami, Fla.

Nolan McLean gave up two runs over 4 ⅔ innings of work for the Americans. Brad Keller tossed 1 ⅓ shutout innings, followed by a scoreless inning apiece from Will Vest and Griffin Jax. Garrett Whitlock only recorded one out while giving up one run, eventually being tagged with the loss. Tyler Roger tossed ⅔ of a scoreless inning.

Bryce Harper hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning for the USA.

Team USA is now 1-2 in the World Baseball Classic, winning in 2017 with losses in 2023 and 2026. This is the sixth installment of the World Baseball Classic and the first time the Venezuelans have won the tournament.
