Vikings take down Texans in preseason opener

The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Houston Texans 20-10 in the first preseason game on Saturday afternoon.

Starting quarterback JJ McCarthy completed 4-of-7 passes for 30 yards while also picking up eight yards on the ground in his only drive of the game. Sam Howell took the majority of the snaps completing 11-of-13 passes for 105 yards along with adding a rushing touchdown. Max Brosmer completed 5-of-8 passes for 47 yards and one touchdown.

12 players caught at least one pass led by Jordan Addison and Lucky Jackson’s three receptions apiece. Myles Price caught two passes for 18 yards and one touchdown.

Zavier Scott led the ground game with seven rushes for 40 yards followed by Jordan Mason’s four carries for 20 yards.

Defensively the Vikings had three interceptions. Mekhi Blackmon led the defense with five tackles.

Kicker Will Reichard connected on both field goal attempts of 38 and 48 yards.

The Vikings will host the New England Patriots in their second preseason game on Saturday (8/16) with kickoff set for noon.
