Vikings win on Christmas Day; Eliminate Lions from playoff race

On Thursday, December 25 the Minnesota Vikings hosted the Detroit Lions for a Christmas Day game they called the “Winter Warrior Whiteout”. Minnesota won the game 23-10 to knock the Lions out of the playoffs race. The Vikings wore an all-white uniform with purple numbers and silver trim.

The Minnesota defense dominated all day long only surrendering 10 points and forcing six turnovers. The Vikings intercepted two passes and recovered four fumbles, winning the turnover battle 6-0. Andrew Van Ginkel recovered two fumbles while Byron Murphy Jr. and Jalen Redmond each recovered a fumble. Harrison Smith and Murphy Jr. each came up with an interception in the game.

Blake Cashman led the defense with 17 tackles. Minnesota also racked up five sacks.

Max Brosmer completed nine-of-16 passes for 51 yards. Justin Jefferson led the receiving core with four catches for 30 yards. Jordan Addison had one carry on a jet sweep that he took 65 yards to the house for touchdown. Aaron Jones Sr. added 18 carries for 53 yards and one touchdown.

Will Reichard was a perfect three-for-three on field goal attempts with the longest being 56 yards along with made kicks from 52 and 42 yards.

The victory improved the Vikings to 8-8 on the season while it dropped the Lions to 8-8 on the year. Minnesota will now host the Green Bay Packers in Week 18 to wrap up the 2025 season. The game date and time are still to be determined with the game currently having the possibility to be flexed to Sunday, January 3 or Monday, January 4.
